Sternum
Preoperative simulation
Preoperative simulation of sternum fixation surgery
Most cases that require surgery on the sternum are artificial cuts. When the heart and lungs, the most
important organs for sustaining life, have to be operated on, the sternum, the armor, needs to be cut
open in order to get a better view. After the organs are taken care of, the open sternum is put back
into its original position, or "sternum fixation surgery" is performed at the same time.
Sternum fixation surgery uses a fixation plate made of medical surgical wire and osteosynthesis
material, and the JMC Lab's preoperative simulator can produce a full-scale model of the patient to
verify the fixation of the plate before surgery.
